Cologne / Amsterdam (dpa / lnw) - A point in time for the transfer of the former Reemtsma kidnapper Thomas Drach from the Netherlands to Germany is still unclear.

According to a spokeswoman, the Amsterdam court has set a new date for April 20 to discuss the extradition request from the Cologne judiciary.

Probably two weeks later, the court will then announce its decision.

The extradition process could take a total of 90 days.

At a first appointment at the end of February, the court, contrary to expectations, had not yet dealt with the application.

The 60-year-old Drach, wanted by a European arrest warrant, was arrested on February 23 in Amsterdam.

The six-month period for pre-trial detention only begins after his extradition, explained a spokesman for the Cologne public prosecutor's office.

If an accused is in custody, the main hearing must, in principle, start before this period of time has expired.

Drach, who was born in Erftstadt near Cologne, is suspected of having committed three robberies on money transporters in Cologne and Frankfurt / Main in 2018 and 2019.

In one of the acts, a security guard was shot and seriously injured.

In 1996, Drach and accomplices kidnapped the Hamburg heir to the tobacco dynasty, Jan Philipp Reemtsma.

The victim was released after 33 days - for the equivalent of around 18 million euros in ransom.

Drach was later caught and sentenced to fourteen and a half years in prison.

He was released in autumn 2013.
