March 20, 2021 The presence of a Brazilian variant, registered as suspected last week in North West Sardinia, has been confirmed for the first time in Sardinia by the Microbiology and Virology laboratory of the Aou of Sassari.

The assurance that it is a Brazilian variant (with the code P1) came after the mapping of the entire viral genome of Sars Cov-2.

Furthermore, the analyzes excluded the presence of the Brazilian variant in other samples from Gallura.

The structure of the Aou in Sassari represents a 'sentinel laboratory', with the task of alerting the surveillance system to limit infected outbreaks.
