Düsseldorf (dpa) - Almost half of consumers in Germany (44 percent) want to treat themselves to something after the corona pandemic has subsided, according to a survey by management consultancy McKinsey.

In the case of consumers under the age of 25, the proportion is even over 60 percent, as the survey also shows.

Accordingly, traveling and visiting restaurants or bars are right at the top of the list of “pampering activities” envisaged.

“We can see that consumers are still in a kind of waiting position.

Safety is still important to them, and the vast majority abide by the rules.

But there is a great longing for social experiences with family and friends and the desire to indulge in something, ”says McKinsey expert Jesko Perrey.

According to the survey, the activities that Germans long for the most are meeting friends (53 percent), going to restaurants and bars (40 percent), and getting together with family (38 percent).

Despite virus variants, lockdowns and delays in vaccination, consumers in Germany are overall optimistic in a European comparison, according to McKinsey.

One in four believes that the German economy will recover in two to three months.

Another 60 percent expected it to take six to twelve months.

Only 17 percent expected the Covid 19 pandemic to have a permanent impact on the economy.
