Gelsenkirchen (dpa) - The long-time Bundesliga manager Reiner Calmund advised FC Schalke 04 to sign Ralf Rangnick as sports director.
This would be “a perfectly right decision”, judged Calmund in a guest post published on Saturday for the portal “t-online.de”.
Rangnicks assumption of office would "lighten the oppressive darkness that is currently over the club, improve the mood in one fell swoop", assured Calmund.
However, the 62-year-old would have to be assured of all sporting skills.
The advance of an interest group for a commitment by Rangnick had recently caused a stir at Schalke.
Despite the quarrels, supervisory board chairman Jens Buchta started negotiations with Rangnick.
«We discussed the general conditions for a possible cooperation in detail.
We then agreed to continue the talks, ”both sides announced on Thursday.
«He will implement things with his team.
This also requires a guarantee of long-term financial support, ”wrote Calmund.
In the talks, the Schalke team would have to hurry, since Rangnick is also a candidate for the successor to Joachim Löw as national coach, added Calmund.
The 72-year-old also recommended that Schalke convert the professional department into a corporation.
This has been vehemently rejected by many fans so far.
“This decision doesn't cost any tradition, there are many positive role models,” said Calmund.
