“Once again, we have to declare Russian diplomats undesirable persons,” TASS quotes Borisov's comment on the arrest on Friday, March 19, of six people on suspicion of spying for Russia.

The Bulgarian prime minister stressed that the operation of the special services is a kind of demonstrative action demanding an end to espionage in Bulgaria.

Earlier it was reported that several people were detained in the Bulgarian capital of Sofia on suspicion of spying for Russia.

On January 24, it became known that the Bulgarian prosecutor's office, according to the National Security Agency, organized pre-trial proceedings against two Russian diplomats, also suspected of espionage.

Later, Bulgaria officially declared two employees of the Russian diplomatic mission persona non grata.

The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned Bulgaria for the "show" with the expulsion of diplomats.

The official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova noted that "no materials, evidence, grounds that served as a reason for making such decisions or the guilt of these people were not presented."
