WELT AM SONNTAG:

Ms. Karliczek, because one in 200,000 people suffered a thrombosis near the time they were vaccinated with AstraZeneca, the protection of hundreds of thousands was put on hold.

Would you also have recommended suspending vaccinations at the beginning of the week?

Anja Karliczek:

Vaccines have to be effective and safe.

This is checked during approval and the highest standards apply.

Like all drugs, the vaccines will of course continue to be monitored after approval in order to identify possible risks that occur very rarely.

If the Paul-Ehrlich-Institut, the testing institute responsible for us, reports doubts, then it cannot go back to the agenda.

It is right to take the time to investigate the reports and review the suspicions.

Because trust in vaccines is a valuable asset.
