Erfurt (dpa / th) - Thuringia is getting additional vaccination doses from a special EU contingent for districts in which the corona virus is particularly rampant.

This was announced by Thuringia's Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) on Friday after consultations by the federal and state governments in Erfurt.

According to this, the Free State will receive around 30,000 extra doses of vaccine.

The extra vaccine is to come from an additional delivery of a total of four million doses from the manufacturer Biontech / Pfizer to the EU.

EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen had announced that the additional package had been negotiated in order to be able to vaccinate more specifically in corona hotspots.

Germany distributes around 580,000 cans.

Of these, around 250,000 vaccine doses are to go to general practitioners' practices so that they can start vaccinating as early as Easter.

Ramelow said the vaccine should go to the worst affected districts in Thuringia.

According to this, the districts of Greiz, Wartburgkreis, Saale-Orla-Kreis and Schmalkalden-Meiningen should each receive an additional 7,500 vaccine doses.

The district of Greiz is currently the region with the highest seven-day incidence nationwide.

The value there on Friday was 533.9 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.
