  In recent years, the incidence of myopia among students in our country is high and the trend of younger age has seriously affected the physical and mental health of children, which has attracted great attention from all sectors of society.

The newly released "14th Five-Year Plan" outline proposes to effectively control childhood obesity and myopia.

  Based on the previous expert team composed of professional ophthalmology clinicians, the National Health Commission has expanded its scope and established a new committee composed of 42 experts from various fields such as myopia prevention, infant health, public health, traditional Chinese medicine and health education. .

The main purpose is to strengthen scientific and democratic decision-making, conduct investigations, research, analysis and demonstration of major policies, strategic planning, decision-making deployment, and theories, and give full play to the role of expert consultation, advice and supervision.

  Zhao Mingwei, deputy chairman of the Expert Advisory Committee, said that there are two aspects to preventing myopia. On the one hand, it is to prevent people who do not have myopia from getting myopia. This requires popular science to promote eye health and reduce the pressure on students in school work.

The other is to prevent low-grade myopia from turning into high-grade myopia.

The real hazard of myopia is that after entering high myopia, as the degree increases, it is easy to cause many complications of the fundus, such as retinal detachment, macular hole, choroidal atrophy and so on.

  In the near future, the specific work of this expert advisory committee is mainly to carry out the evaluation and assessment of myopia prevention and control in various provinces in 2019, and provide technical guidance, research, and training to the pilot districts and counties of suitable technologies for the prevention and control of myopia in children and adolescents.

  The work that the first expert advisory committee will complete during the three-year term includes: First, provide advice and consultation for the formulation of laws and regulations, guidelines and policies, technical standards and important measures related to children’s and adolescents’ vision health; Provide professional guidance for business development, discipline construction, scientific research and talent team training; third is to undertake national vision health management, to carry out scientific and standardized supervision and inspection, and scientific evaluation; fourth is to actively discover the excellence of national vision health management Practices, typical experience and advanced technology; Fifth, extensively carry out popular science education on children and adolescents' vision health-related content.
