Hanover (dpa / lni) - Despite the high incidence, the state of Lower Saxony and municipalities want to test the opening of retail and gastronomy in model experiments with quick tests.

The State Chancellery announced on Friday in Hanover that a concept for model projects should be developed "very promptly", with which, for example, shops in city centers can reopen if negative test results are presented.

The applicable distance and hygiene rules should also be observed.

"We hope that we can gain experience with these model projects as to whether and how, in particular through tests, enough security can be created to reopen, for example, trade, gastronomy, culture and sport under tight framework conditions," said Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) .

"The model projects could - if they go well - open up new perspectives for all of us in the next few months."

The presidents of the three central municipal associations, Klaus Wiswe (CDU, Lower Saxony District Association), Ulrich Mädge (SPD, Lower Saxony City Association) and Marco Trips (Lower Saxony Association of Cities and Municipalities) welcomed the project.

“The model tests can be a step in the right direction.

We will support their implementation constructively.

You have to be open to anyone who wants to participate, ”they shared.

The central associations had previously called for a change of strategy in the corona policy - with the aim of uniting simple, controllable restrictions and partial openings in public life.

On Thursday, the coalition committee of the Lower Saxony state government agreed to support individual municipalities with a model experiment in opening up.

March 29 was targeted as the start date.

A final decision should only be made after the next federal-state talks on Monday, it said.

Which municipalities and how many should take part in the experiment remained open on Friday.

The project is still at the very beginning, said a government spokeswoman.

As a test municipality, Celle got involved after the city of Osnabrück, among others, had already expressed interest in a test-based opening of trade.

According to a report by the NDR, Hanover, Braunschweig, Vechta, Göttingen, Lüneburg and Wolfsburg also came into play as model municipalities.
