The state of health disaster ended this Friday at midnight.

It concerned the regions of Dakar and Thiès, which concentrate the majority of Covid-19 cases.

A decision announced by President Macky Sall in his message to the nation on March 8, after several days of demonstrations and violence that killed at least 10 people.

The measure would run until Saturday, but is therefore not extended.

At the same time, Senegal has just crossed the threshold of 1,000 deaths linked to the coronavirus pandemic.

At the market in the Ouakam district, Aminata Diagne sells fabrics and ready-to-wear.

The lifting of the state of health disaster is good news for its business.

All the merchandise you see there

- she shows -

I haven't managed to sell, especially the outfits for baptisms and weddings.

As it will resume, it suits me.

You have to live with this disease.

"

The measure implied in particular the prohibition of family ceremonies and gatherings.

For this chicken seller, it's a relief.

The restaurants didn't buy anything from us and with the restrictions on the opening of the markets, it's really hard.

Activities must resume.

"

For this man, sitting in front of his house, the end of the state of health disaster goes in the direction of relaxation after the demonstrations.

It is also to ease tensions, because when young people want to go out at night, to work at night, it is they who have come out to demonstrate.

"

This is also what Ndiaga Kane, a municipal agent, thinks, but he warns of the risk of slackening.

Nightclubs, parties, you have to be vigilant.

Wear masks and wash your hands.

Especially since we Senegalese are stubborn.

 "

The Head of State recalled it during the last Council of Ministers: "

The lifting of the state of health disaster does not mean the end of the pandemic

".

At the same time, the vaccination campaign is continuing.
