Mainz (dpa / lrs) - After a break of months, the Fridays for Future movement demonstrated again in Rhineland-Palatinate.

According to the police, more than 300 people took part in a bicycle demonstration in Mainz on Friday to protest for a climate-friendly traffic turnaround.

"This is the first step to bring the climate issue back to the front of the agenda," said the Mainz climate protection activist Maurice Conrad.

A bicycle demonstration is a good option because the corona-related distance can be kept well.

Demonstrations were also announced on Friday in Koblenz and Saarbrücken.

On March 19, Fridays for Future called for a global climate strike in more than 200 cities across Germany under the motto “#NoMoreEmptyPromises - no more empty promises”.

Art events, bicycle demos and face-to-face rallies were planned in around 50 countries around the world.

Due to the pandemic, part of the protest moved to the Internet - with several live streams and a photo upload campaign.
