Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg's Ministry of Agriculture has drawn a positive balance of the hunting season for hoofed game, which has been extended by two weeks in parts of the state this year.

Between January 16 and 31, 378 wild boars, 299 roe deer and 61 red and fallow deer were shot, the ministry in Potsdam announced in response to a request from the CDU parliamentary group.

The hunted roe deer and wild boar speak for the success of the hunting season extension.

As a rule, the hunting season for hoofed game in Brandenburg ends on January 15th.

This limit does not apply to wild boars.

Hunting restrictions due to African swine fever, among other things, prevented the shooting targets for hoofed game in six counties and two urban districts from being met, the ministry said.

In order to reduce game damage and to maintain a healthy game population, the hunting season was extended until the end of January.

The exception was valid for the districts of Spree-Neisse, Oder-Spree, Dahme-Spreewald, Märkisch-Oderland, Barnim and Uckermark as well as for Cottbus and Frankfurt (Oder).
