On the ninth and tenth of March, SVT Nyheter och Uppdrag Granskning together with the German public service company ZDF were able to reveal, among other things, that Scania had been involved in suspected corruption deals in India for a long period.
Several details are confirmed in several secret internal investigations carried out by Scania and which SVT and ZDF have read.
One of the investigations shows, among other things, that Scania in 2016 delivered via intermediaries a luxury bus to a company with close connections to the Indian Minister of Transport's family.
Something that is confirmed by email exchanges, among other things.
According to the minister, the information is incorrect.
Scania's internal auditors have urged the company to report the suspected bribery to the police, something Scania's management has not done.
"Very serious"
SVT has asked Minister of Infrastructure Anna Hallberg about how she views the corruption data in Scania.
She does not want to stand for an interview but writes in an email that:
“The government takes bribery and corruption very seriously and we have ongoing work to ensure that Swedish companies do not contribute to irregularities.
The government expects Swedish companies - regardless of where in the world they operate - to act sustainably and responsibly by, among other things, working to fight corruption. ”
Anna Hallberg also writes: "Swedish companies are often considered world leaders in internationally sustainable business and the government naturally expects all Swedish companies to take their responsibility in case of suspicion of crime".
