Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In view of the sharp rise in new corona infections, there will be no further easing in North Rhine-Westphalia from Monday, according to Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU).

"There can be no further openings from March 22nd," said Laschet on Friday in a special session of the state parliament.

On Monday, the Prime Minister of the federal states and Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) want to advise on how to proceed in the pandemic.

Laschet made it clear that the emergency brake agreed by the federal and state governments would be applied nationwide in the event of a sharp increase in the number of infections in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The entire country is taken as a benchmark.

If the incidence nationwide for more than three days in a row is over 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, the "emergency brake" applies, which again provides for stricter lockdown rules.

On Friday, the weekly incidence in North Rhine-Westphalia was 96.4 according to the Robert Koch Institute.

At the beginning of March, the federal and state governments decided that if there is a seven-day incidence of more than 100 on three consecutive days in a state or region, tougher corona measures will automatically apply again.
