Halle / Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - In Magdeburg, Halle and other cities in Saxony-Anhalt, hundreds of people drew attention to the consequences of climate change on Friday and protested for more effective climate protection.

In Halle a human chain had formed in the city center.

Police said about 675 participants protested without major incidents.

The people in the chain kept as far as possible to the prescribed distance from each other and wore mouth and nose protection, said the police.

According to the police, around 60 people came together for a rally in Magdeburg.

The motto of the events was #NoMoreEmptyPromises - no more empty promises.

The protests took place around the world.

The aim is to draw attention to the consequences of massive CO2 emissions and other environmental pollution, according to the organizers.
