Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In view of the sharp rise in new corona infections, the Greens in the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament have called for a nationwide stop of further planned openings.

The federal and state governments would have to readjust their deliberations on Monday, said Greens parliamentary leader Josefine Paul on Friday in a special session of the state parliament in Düsseldorf.

"Anything else would be irresponsible."

In view of the sluggish test and vaccination campaign, there were no prerequisites for the openings agreed at the beginning of March.

"We're in the middle of the third wave," said Paul.

But the North Rhine-Westphalian state government continues to drive on sight.

Paul accused Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) of having so far been noticed as an “emergency brake relativizer”.

The SPD and the Greens are calling for the state to adhere to the decisions made by the federal and state governments in early March.

According to this, an emergency brake should apply if the seven-day incidence of new corona infections is over 100 on three consecutive days.

Laschet said in the debate that the agreed emergency brake was the nationwide standard in North Rhine-Westphalia as well.
