The university applications have now opened for the autumn semesters and a digital education fair is currently being held in Norrbotten.

In previous years, students have been able to visit the universities in connection with an open house, but this year the offer is gathered on a website and under one and the same roof.

In Norrbotten, there is a great need for people with higher education and not least, it will be even greater in the Ore Fields with its industrial investments.

- If you compare with the national average in Sweden, we are well much lower among our citizens who have a post-secondary education, says Anna Viltok, education leader of the Lapland Municipal Association.

Students want to study further - but preferably wait

At Kunskapshuset in Gällivare, we find last-year students Sofia Ömalm and Albert Schuitema who both want to study further, but not just this autumn.

- I think everyone, yes, does not really know what to do.

We may work for a year, we may travel if we can, says Albert Schuitema.

The event is organized by the Lapland Municipal Association together with Akademi Norr.

The proportion of people with post-secondary education in Pajala is low compared with the national average.
