Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - According to an analysis by the health insurance company DAK, employees in Saarland are the most likely to report sick from mental illnesses in Germany.

Last year, 339 days of absence per 100 employed DAK insured persons were registered, as the health insurance company announced on Friday in Saarbrücken.

This is around 30 percent more than the national average of 265 days.

Depression was therefore the most important cause of sick leave, followed by adjustment disorders - which increased by 18 percent compared to the previous year.

Women in particular were often absent due to mental illness, the DAK announced.

In the Corona year 2020, with 458 days per 100 insured persons, they had almost twice as many days of absence due to mental illness as men - and thus reached a new high.

"The corona pandemic is not only a physical health risk. Our current analysis shows how serious the consequences can also be for the psyche," said the DAK head of the Saarland, Jürgen Günther.

Women in particular suffered from the pandemic conditions.

For them, the sick leave due to mental illness increased by 14 percent, for men it fell by 17 percent.

This is a representative database.
