Stettin (dpa / mv) - After Poland declared the corona high incidence area, West Pomerania State Secretary Patrick Dahlemann emphasized the importance of Mecklenburg-West Pomerania's test rules for cross-border commuters.

"Our strict test obligation goes beyond the federal entry regulations, but also ensures freedom in the metropolitan region of Stettin," said the SPD politician on Friday evening.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has already passed a resolution to implement the new classification for cross-border commuters: You should submit a negative corona test every 48 hours.

Previously, the test could be up to four days old.

In Brandenburg, commuters should only be tested twice a week.

Thanks to rapid test centers directly at the border crossings in Linken and Ahlbeck, the company is well positioned, explained Dahlemann.

"We have been preparing intensively for this over the past few weeks."

He hoped that the situation in Poland would ease up again quickly.

Due to the sharp increase in the number of corona infections, the federal government had classified Poland as a high incidence area.

From Sunday, entry from the neighboring country bordering Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Saxony is only allowed with a negative Corona test.

In Poland, the number of infections has risen dramatically in the past few days.

The absolute number of new infections on one day was 25,998 on Friday, just below the record of 27,875 from November.

For comparison: In Germany, the RKI reported 17,482 new infections within 24 hours on Friday, significantly fewer than in Poland.

But Germany has more than twice as many inhabitants.

According to the Polish Ministry of Health, the British virus variant is now responsible for more than 60 percent of new infections in Poland.
