• Volkswagen announces cuts of up to 5,000 jobs in German plants

19 March 2021 Car manufacturer Wolkswagen has announced that it will suspend production in Brazil for 12 days.

The worsening of the Coronavirus pandemic has forced the automotive giant to make this decision. 



The provision will come into force on March 24th and will last until April 4th.



The measure concerns the factories located in the states of Sao Paulo and Paraná, in the south of the country.

In 2019, Paraná was the second largest vehicle manufacturer in the country (Brazil is one of the 10 largest vehicle manufacturers in the world).

In addition to the Volkswagen factories, Paraná also has Renault, Audi, Volvo and DAF in its territory.



With a note, the German company in Brazil announces that: "With the worsening of the pandemic cases and the increase in the occupancy of intensive care places in the Brazilian states, the company adopts this measure to preserve the health of its employees. and their families. Only essential activities will be maintained in the factories. The employees of the administrative area will work remotely. The measure was decided in agreement with the trade unions. "



Volkswagen shares have definitely taken off since the beginning of the year, allowing the German carmaker to become the company with the highest capitalization on the main Frankfurt list.

The jump from the beginning of the year was + 97 percent, going from 0.66 to 327 euros.
