For example, twelve out of 21 regions paid a lump sum or a salary supplement to healthcare professionals.

A sum that varied between 1500 to 20,000 kronor.

16 regions have offered extra compensation in addition to the usual salary for extra passes and ten regions distributed gift cards in sums between SEK 400 and 1,000.

In the Västerbotten Region, a decision was made last autumn to give all employees in the region a gift card of SEK 400.

- It does not look the same in the country either with salaries or benefits either, so we do not have any total justice.

What we do know is that in all such situations with different types of compensation, there will always be someone who feels that it is unfair, says Brita Winsa, director of health and medical care in Västerbotten.

Thousands more a month

The Dalarna region chooses to give up to SEK 5,000 extra a month to nurses in certain wards and SEK 20,000 per moved holiday week this summer.

It has helped staff the infection ward at Falu Hospital, where nurse Anna Hedman works.

- It has been the most positive thing about the bonus, that we got more staff, she says.

In Västmanland, a number of benefits have been given to healthcare staff in 2020. For example, basic planned staff at covid-iva received SEK 20,000 in a one-off payment.

Region Kronoberg answers in SVT's survey that they have chosen not to give anything at all in special covid compensation.

On the other hand, salaries for healthcare staff have risen the most in the whole of Sweden last year, by 5.3 percent, according to figures from the Swedish Healthcare Association.
