Munich (AP) - The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich are close to entering the playoffs of the Euroleague for the first time.

Coach Andrea Trinchieri's team won on matchday 30 on Friday evening against Turkish champions Anadolu Efes Istanbul after a strong second half with 80:79 (37:46) and has the best chances with 19:11 successes, as the first Bundesliga club to be knocked out -Reach round.

A win at Valencia BC on March 25th would make a place in the top eight.

With the German national team center Tibor Pleiß, the currently outstanding Euroleague team from the Turkish metropolis dominated for a long time.

With five points, the title contender was leading after ten minutes.

At the break, Istanbul was ahead by nine points (46:37) because Munich couldn't find any means against Shane Larkin and Rodrigue Beaubois.

The American and the French scored half of the points by the break.

After the break, however, Bayern came out of the cabin better.

With a quick 7-0 run, the connection was made again.

After 25 minutes, the German top team was leading with 54:53.

The favorite, however, had a suitable answer ready and went into the fourth round with a 63:59.

In a tight final phase, the lead always changed.

But Bayern had better nerves.

Munich's James Gist blocked an attempt by Larkin seconds before the end and thus ensured the first defeat of Istanbul after eight wins in a row.

The best Bayern thrower was Vladimir Lucic with 18 points.
