Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Rhineland-Palatinate continues the corona vaccinations with the means from Astrazeneca.

The Ministry of Health in Mainz announced on Friday that this decision will be implemented immediately.

The first vaccinations should take place on the same day.

This means that the suspended vaccinations of priority group two in the hospitals, the police and in the correctional facilities, as well as the vaccinations in the integration assistance facilities, started again.

Priority group two includes people between the ages of 70 and 79 and people with severe previous illnesses.

The suspended appointments for new appointments in the vaccination centers for priority group two will also be lifted.

Vaccination appointments would again be allocated for all three available vaccines.

"The corresponding vaccinations will take place again from next week," said the ministry.

People who have already registered for an appointment would not have to register again.

With the vaccinations of bedridden people by the general practitioners from March 22nd, the contact persons or members of priority group two could probably be vaccinated again.

The vaccinations with Astrazeneca were also suspended in Rhineland-Palatinate on Monday following a decision by the Federal Ministry of Health.

Several cases of special blood clots in cerebral veins had previously been reported.

However, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) decided on Thursday that Astrazeneca's vaccine can still be classified as safe and effective.
