Russian President Vladimir Putin has proposed a live debate to his US colleague Joe Biden on Friday or next Monday.

He invited Biden to "continue our discussion, but on the condition that we do so live," Putin said on Russian television on Thursday.

The Kremlin chief had previously wished Biden “health” after his serious allegations.

“As for what my American colleague has said, we are really, as he said, personally acquainted: what would I answer him?

I would tell him: stay healthy!

I wish him health, ”Putin said on Thursday.

In an interview with the US television broadcaster ABC, Biden had previously answered yes to the question of whether he considered Putin to be a “killer”.

His wishes for Biden are "without irony and without joke", stressed Putin during a video link with citizens on the annexed Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which is celebrating its seventh anniversary of "joining" Russia.

He also made a small point: "We always see our own characteristics in other people and think that they are like ourselves." The Kremlin chief also said at the online meeting that Russia is ready to cooperate with the US was - but according to his own interests.

Kremlin calls Biden's statements "very bad"

The Kremlin had previously sharply criticized Biden's statements about Putin.

"I'm just saying that these are very bad statements by the President of the United States," said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov of the Interfax agency on Thursday.

Russia had previously ordered its ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, back to Moscow in protest - to analyze the future of relations with the United States, as the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

“Of course there has never been anything like it in history,” continued Kremlin spokesman Peskov.

The Russian-American relations are "very bad", and Biden has now shown that he is not interested in improving the relationship.

The prominent Moscow foreign politician Konstantin Kosachev described Biden's statements as completely inadmissible.

The deputy chief of the Russian Federation Council demanded an apology and threatened further action if this did not materialize.

The preliminary withdrawal of the Russian ambassador from Washington is already a very serious diplomatic step.

The Russian Foreign Ministry had previously announced that talks with Ambassador Antonov should deal with the question of how an “irreversible deterioration” in relations could be prevented.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Riabkov told the RIA Novosti news agency that responsibility for the deterioration in relations “rests entirely with the United States”.

The US State Department said it was taking note of the Russian ambassador's recall.

A spokeswoman added that the US ambassador in Moscow will remain at his post despite the crisis in order to maintain “open communication channels” and “reduce the risk of misjudgments between our countries”.

Jen Psaki, the spokeswoman for the White House, also said on Wednesday, when asked by journalists whether Biden believed the Russian president was literally or figuratively a murderer, the US president was sticking to his "concerns" about things which he finds “bad or problematic”, not back.

Biden was asked in the interview with the broadcaster ABC News whether he was of the opinion that Putin "is a murderer".

The US President replied: “I do.” Biden did not give any details and did not make it clear whether he was referring to the attempted poisoning of the Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny.

Biden also said in the interview that the Russian head of state will “pay” for trying to undermine his 2020 presidential candidacy.

Russia's meddling in the US election

According to the US intelligence services, Russia stood up for then-President Donald Trump in the November election and tried to harm Biden.

The Kremlin rejected this as "completely irrelevant and unfounded".

The rejection of Biden in Moscow is considered great - mainly because of his criticism of the human rights situation in Russia and because of the threat of tougher US sanctions.

Biden had announced new punitive measures against Russia.

The Kremlin, on the other hand, regretted the publication of the report, which should be used as an “excuse” for possible further sanctions against Moscow.

Since taking office in January, Biden has taken a much tougher stance towards Moscow than Trump, who is accused of being overly close to the Kremlin chief.

Biden said he spoke to Putin shortly after he took office in January.

“At the beginning of the conversation I said to him, 'I know you and you know me.

If I come to the conclusion that this has happened, be prepared for something '. ”Biden did not elaborate on whether he meant electoral interference or other Russian practices such as the Navalny case.

However, the US President confirmed that he wanted to “work” with Moscow “if it is in our common interest”.
