March 18, 2021 A 55-year-old worker, Giuseppe D'Erasmo, died yesterday while he was at work in a warehouse in Gravina in Puglia (Bari), in the Graviglione district.

The Bari Public Prosecutor's Office has opened a file for manslaughter on the matter.

The man, an employee of a company in Ruvo di Puglia, had gone to the warehouse in Gravina to remove some iron scaffolding where, according to an initial reconstruction, he would have been crushed after the failure of a crane arm during the movement of building material.

The technical checks must ascertain whether the boom has collapsed due to strong wind or following a failure due to wear or mechanical failure.

The investigation for manslaughter, coordinated by the prosecutor on duty Claudio Pinto, is entrusted to the carabinieri and the Spesal men, who intervened on the spot for the reliefs and to collect the first information from the victim's colleagues useful for reconstructing the dynamics of the accident and identify any responsibilities of employers, also with reference to safety regulations.

In the next few years, the Prosecutor's Office will evaluate whether to arrange the autopsy.
