Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) supports vaccinations with the Russian preparation Sputnik V if it proves to be safe and effective.
After a video conference by the state minister-presidents on Thursday, Schwesig said: “In the discussion, I warned that the effectiveness of the Sputnik vaccine must be tested.
Every vaccine that works and is safe brings us further. "
In addition, Schwesig requested additional production sites for vaccines in Europe.
Schwesig told the daily newspaper "Rheinische Post" (Friday): "What matters is not where a vaccine comes from, but whether it is effective and safe."
If Sputnik meets these criteria, it should be used.
Several other
prime ministers of eastern German states
had previously
advertised the Russian vaccine.
Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) and Berlin's Governing Mayor Michael Müller (SPD) also campaigned for the rapid approval of the Russian corona vaccine Sputnik V.
"We need every vaccine that we can get," said Müller on Thursday after the country chiefs went on video.
