Nürburg (dpa / lrs) - One of the most famous race tracks in the world is starting again in the middle of the corona pandemic.

The 2021 event season with the Nürburgring endurance series begins on March 27th on the asphalt loop in the Eifel.

Despite the corona-related cancellation of the open-air festival “Rock am Ring” with around 80,000 spectators on the second weekend in June, the calendar of events is well filled this year, announced the operators of the Nürburgring on Thursday.

"Motorsport can take place," it said.

For the time being, there will be ghost races without spectators on site - but concepts for their return are being worked on intensively.

According to ring spokesman Alexander Gerhard, the tourist trips, during which amateur racing drivers race their own cars without oncoming traffic over the legendary Nordschleife, began on March 6th.

The season also includes the ADAC 24-hour race from June 3 to 6 and the ADAC Truck Grand Prix from July 16 to 18.

In addition, the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix will take place from August 13th to 15th and the DTM racing series from August 20th to 22nd.

Driving training from taster to professional courses are also planned.

Nürburgring boss Mirco Markfort emphasized: "Despite Corona, our race track is fully booked until mid-November - seven days a week, from Monday to Sunday."

Company events should also take place.
