French cyber defense chief Guillaume Poupard expressed his concern on Thursday over the "noise of boots" in cyberspace, which has become a closed field of clashes between great powers.

"We hear the noise of boots, look at what is happening today between the great world powers, especially around cyber," said the director general of the National Agency for the Security of Information Systems (Anssi).

"Everyone feels seriously attacked", but "at the same time the great powers refuse to invoke international law, as if ultimately it was legal to carry out these attacks", lamented Mr. Poupard, who spoke at the meeting. an update on the future French cybercampus.

The last few months have been marked by the revelation of two exceptional computer attacks by their depth, of which American companies and institutions are the main victims, even if they are not the only ones.

Several US federal agencies have been compromised in an attack using as a vector SolarWinds, a US software publisher whose product has been compromised to introduce a vulnerability to its users.

American intelligence estimated that the attack came from an adversary "probably of Russian origin".

Microsoft also revealed in early March that its Exchange servers, used by businesses around the world for their email, had been compromised by hackers from a Chinese group.

A senior US official said last week that the Biden administration was preparing to retaliate after the attacks.

The cybercampus will bring together from next November at La Défense, in a 26,000 square meter building, the gratin of French cybersecurity, large companies, start-ups, administrations, and training organizations.

It aims to be a place of exchange and sharing between French cybersecurity players, to foster the emergence of a competitive French sector on a global scale.
