Berlin (dpa) - The conflict between the German Gymnastics Federation and the Chemnitz Olympic base because of the continued employment of gymnastics trainer Gabriele Frehse is worsening.

On Thursday, the DTB rejected the expertise on the abuse cases in Chemnitz, which was commissioned by the Olympic base.

«This 'expertise' was created in ignorance of the investigation report of the law firm commissioned by the DTB and also on a completely incomplete factual basis.

It is not in the beginning suitable to question the results of the independent investigation », said the DTB.

Even more so, this expertise is not suitable to cast doubt on the descriptions of the athletes concerned.

After an investigation by a Frankfurt law firm, the DTB found “serious breaches of duty” by Frehse.

Ex-world champion Pauline Schäfer and other gymnasts had accused the trainer of harassing her during training, of administering medication without a doctor's prescription and of not allowing any objection.

Frehse has denied the allegations several times.

The DTB has now taken note of the fact that the Olympic base is apparently concentrating its efforts on trying to discredit the results of the independent investigation instead of drawing the necessary conclusions from these results, the DTB said.

The Olympic base had an expert opinion prepared by the neutral expert Professor Udo Rudolph from the University of Chemnitz for the opinion of the DTB Presidium.

It states that a competent, independent and open investigation is essential for an open and structured processing of the events.

The investigation by the Frankfurt law firm showed inadequacies in terms of an impartial questioning of the witnesses.
