Frankfurt / Main (dpa) - DFB director Oliver Bierhoff is hoping for European Championship games in Munich even after the ghost game statements by UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin.

He could only interpret it in such a way that Ceferin "of course wants to send a clear signal to certain countries or governments to take action," said Bierhoff on Thursday during a media talk.

"We can only take it in that way, in the first step we want to play."

Ceferin (53) had ruled out European Championship games without spectators for the tournament this summer (June 11 to July 11) in the Croatian media.

The European Football Union then announced on Wednesday that host cities in which only ghost games are possible due to corona would not be automatically excluded.

However, it must be weighed up whether it would not make more sense to move the games to another location.

"Of course we have all planned our plans in Munich," said Bierhoff (52), who also said that from Nuremberg "anywhere" could be flown.

“That is not the subject now.

I do wish that we also have games in Germany. "

The three group games of the national team against France, Portugal and Hungary as well as a quarter-finals are to take place in Munich.

"There is no doubt that we all want fans in the stadiums again," said Bierhoff.

"Actually, one would like to imagine a European championship only with fans."

He is curious to see how the debate develops.

"You are still in good spirits that certain measures will be taken in the time (until summer)."

There is “no plan B” for the DFB location during the European Championship in Herzogenaurach.
