An “inadmissible and shameful” act.

The bust of François Mitterrand, installed in the park of the same name since 2016 in Coulaines, in the Sarthe, was vandalized, the mayor of the city, Christophe Rouillon (PS) said on Wednesday evening.

In a message posted on Facebook, the councilor reports having found on the scene a hammerhead, which was probably used to break the nose of the statue, and to degrade the commemorative plaque.

The object was handed over to the police.

"With a little luck, we will find the author thanks to his fingerprints", hopes Christophe Rouillon.

The elected official indicated in the columns of

that a complaint will be filed.

He also told the newspaper that this statue, by sculptor Grigor Nahabetian, had been made in two copies.

The second is in Jarnac at the entrance to the house of the former President of the Republic, who died 25 years ago.
