Stuttgart / Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - Three further high-speed cycle routes projects in Baden-Württemberg are funded by the federal government with 6.4 million euros.

As Transport Minister Winfried Herrmann (Greens) announced on Thursday, the planned connections Offenburg-Gengenbach, Ebersbach-Göppingen-Süßen and a section of the Mannheim-Viernheim-Weinheim-Darmstadt connection will benefit.

A fast route between Mannheim city center and the grounds of the Federal Garden Show is to be established.

The federal government contributes 75 percent to the planning costs.

Herrmann was delighted with the cash blessing: "This means that a total of 15 high-speed cycle path projects are now being planned in depth."

The aim is to realize a total of 20 cycle superhighways by 2030.

Nationwide, the south-west is at the forefront when it comes to planning cycle superhighways.

For commuters in particular, these are a good alternative to get to work quickly and safely.
