Berlin (dpa) - The ZDF family saga “Ku'damm 56” becomes the material for a musical.

The premiere in the Berlin Stage Theater des Westens is planned for November, as the organizers announced.

The author of the television series, Grimme Prize winner Annette Hess, developed the stage version together with the songwriters Peter Plate and Ulf Leo Sommer (Rosenstolz, Max Raabe, Sarah Connor).

Advance sales for “Ku'damm 56 - the Musical”, which starts a year late due to corona, will begin this Thursday.

Then the single for the musical, "Berlin Berlin", will also be released.

The team includes musical director Christoph Drewitz (“Fack ju Göhte”) and choreographer Adam Murray (“Rocketman”).

The main roles in the “ultimate Berlin musical”, the part of Monika and Freddy, are played by Sandra Leitner (“The fabulous world of Amélie - the musical”) and David Jakobs (“The bell ringer of Notre Dame”).

The Berlin musical theater wants to restart the production after the forced Corona break.

The story is about a dance school on Berlin's Kurfürstendamm and the women of the Schöllack family, about emancipation and new beginnings, but also about the narrowness of the post-war period.

The third part of the series, «Ku'damm 63», will start on television on Sunday.
