Animal News from Washington: Joe Biden's Sheepdogs Major and Champ return to the White House.

In an interview broadcast on Wednesday, the US president explained a recent biting incident involving Major.

The "cute dog" was "turned a corner and there were two people he doesn't know, you know".

They moved, whereupon Major moved to protect him, said Biden.

Biden disagreed with the assumption that the dog had been moved to the Biden's house in Delaware because of the incident.

Major and Champ only ended up there because he was away for two days and First Lady Jill for four days.

"That's why we brought him home." In any case, he hadn't banished Major home.

Incidentally, "85 percent of the people" in the White House would love him, Biden said.

The former rescue dog is three years old, Champ is twelve.

It is the first time since the farewell to former President Barack Obama and his puppies Bo and Sunny in early 2017 that pets are allowed to call government headquarters their home again.

Biden's predecessor, Donald Trump, had no pets.
