The Russian Embassy to the United States said that "the accusations by the American intelligence that Russia interfered in favor of former President Donald Trump in the US presidential elections that took place last year are unfounded."

She added in a statement that Washington is trying - through the document prepared by its intelligence services - to transfer responsibility for its internal crises to external players.

She indicated that the US administration’s position is not in line with the expert dialogue proposed by Russia, which is based on equality and mutual respect to find solutions to the most pressing issues.

She said that Washington's actions did not contribute to building better relations with Moscow.

The 15-page report, issued by US intelligence on Tuesday, adds to long-standing accusations that some of Trump's top aides worked in Russia's favor by exaggerating allegations made by Ukrainian figures linked to Moscow to Joe Biden, who was then a candidate in the US presidential election.

Washington is expected to impose new sanctions on Moscow soon, due to these allegations, three sources told Reuters, on condition of anonymity.

The United States imposed sanctions on 4 senior Russian officials this month due to Moscow's treatment of opposition politician Alexei Navalny, in a move Moscow considered an unacceptable interference in its internal affairs.

Today, Wednesday, the Moscow embassy in Washington accused the United States of seeking to discredit Russia's image and hold others responsible for its internal problems.
