Hanover (dpa / lni) - A hall of a sandblasting and paint shop in Hanover caught fire on Wednesday evening.

The driver of a passing train noticed the flames and the glow of the fire and alerted the fire department, said a fire department spokesman.

The immediately adjacent railway line has been closed for the time being.

The “fire and smoke development” was “massive”, according to the spokesman.

Since paints and varnishes were also stored in the company, their use was not without danger.

More than 80 emergency services brought the fire under control that evening.

The operation will probably drag on into the night, said the spokesman.

People were not injured.

The damage could not be quantified at first.

The cause of the fire was also initially unclear.
