Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - According to the spokesman for Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens), the negotiators will not go into depth in the first exploratory talks on the formation of a government in the southwest.

"This is a warming-up," said Rudi Hoogvliet on Wednesday morning before the start of the negotiations in Stuttgart.

"Now we're going to do a proper scan, but we're not really going into the depths today."

That must then happen in the next few rounds.

You have to come together in terms of content and have the feeling that you can form a reliable and stable government for five years.

In each of the 90 minutes with the CDU, SPD and FDP, no topic blocks will be dealt with in depth, but key points will be touched upon.

Before the talks began, Kretschmann himself told the German Press Agency that it was about both atmosphere and content.

It could be a difficult decision.

"I'm curious."

First, Kretschmann and other top Greens wanted to meet with the CDU, which ended up far behind the eco party in the state elections on Sunday.

The union around party leader and interior minister Thomas Strobl wants to continue green-black - if possible.

In the afternoon, the Greens and the SPD want to explore the chances of a traffic light with the FDP.

Afterwards the conversation with the Liberals is planned.

Social Democrats and FDP see the CDU as voted out and are striving to join the government.

The soundings are expected to continue in the coming week.
