Dresden (dpa / sn) - The schools in central Saxony and in the Bautzen district will remain open for the time being.

The Ministry of Culture announced this on Wednesday upon request.

The seven-day incidence on Wednesday was below the critical value of 100. This means that school and daycare can continue as usual until the Easter holidays.

"There is no threat of closure of the facilities," it said.

On Tuesday, the numbers in both districts were still above the 100 mark - that's why school closings were in the room.

In a video link, Minister of Education Christian Piwarz discussed the situation and possible school closings with affected districts and the city of Chemnitz on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the ministry, the decision will be made on Thursday whether daycare centers and schools in regions with high numbers of infections will have to close on Monday.

According to state regulations, schools and daycare centers must close again if the incidence value of 100 is exceeded on five consecutive working days.

In addition to the Vogtland, where schools and daycare centers are closed anyway, the incidence value is currently over 100 in Chemnitz and in the districts of the Erzgebirge, Zwickau, Northern Saxony and Meißen.
