Potsdam (dpa / bb) - Brandenburg wants to expand its road network and is increasing its investments for this.

This year, 375 million euros are to flow into the expansion of roads - 33 million euros more than in the previous year, as Transport Minister Guido Beermann (CDU) announced on Wednesday.

A total of 113 projects are to be implemented, 66 measures on federal roads and 47 on state roads.

Brandenburg is an area of land, many kilometers have to be covered to get from A to B, according to the minister.

The car is an important means of transport, especially in rural areas.

The budget for the state roads was increased this year by 10 million euros to a total of 181 million euros for planning, construction and maintenance.

In addition, according to the ministry, the federal government is making 140 million euros available to the state for the federal highways this year - 11 million euros more than last year.

The state is investing 54 million euros in municipal road construction funding.

The state also wants to promote the traffic turnaround, as Beermann emphasized.

To this end, cycling and the corresponding infrastructure are to be strengthened.

A total of around 30 million euros would be available for this in 2021 - more than ever before, according to the Ministry of Transport.

For investments in cycle paths on federal and state roads, 20 million euros are planned.

To this end, 20 construction measures with 190 kilometers of cycle paths on federal and state roads are to be continued, completed or construction started.

According to an analysis by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC), Brandenburg has fallen in favor of bicycle tourists.
