The head of the Libyan-American alliance, Issam Omeish, said that the mercenaries of the Russian Wagner Company will not leave Libya without an international agreement.

Omeish added in an interview with the evening program on Al-Jazeera Mubasher, that the mercenaries file represent the first danger threatening the stability of Libya and the progress of the political process.

He said that the forces of retired Major General Khalifa Haftar, backed by mercenaries, are seeking a military solution to the crisis in Libya, and this is a great danger threatening stability and risking the country's future.

Omeish stressed that international will is at stake in the case of mercenaries in Libya, noting that the United Nations has sent teams to study the mercenaries' situation and discuss the best plans to maintain the ceasefire, remove foreign forces and collect weapons.

He said that there are international efforts to expel mercenaries from countries neighboring Libya, which can be reached through pressure on the countries that sent them.

He added that the difficulty lies in taking out the mercenaries of the Russian Wagner Company, because they play a political role and an international agreement must be reached to remove them to ensure the future of Libya.

In a declaration adopted unanimously, the UN Security Council called for the withdrawal of all foreign forces and those it described as mercenaries from Libya without delay.

He called on the parties to fully implement the ceasefire agreement signed last October, and urged member states to respect the agreement and support its full implementation.

He also stressed the need for member states to respect the arms embargo imposed by the United Nations, pointing out that it has been violated continuously since 2011, according to the UN experts charged with monitoring it.
