Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Three days after the state elections in Rhineland-Palatinate, the CDU parliamentary group is meeting today for its first meeting after the defeat.

The MPs want to advise on the reasons for the election result and also call in external experts.

In addition, the decision on the future group chairmanship is pending.

Christian Baldauf wants to make himself available again for this.

The new state parliament has 31 CDU members, four fewer than before.

The CDU received 27.7 percent of the vote in the election on Sunday and was again only the second strongest party behind the SPD with a gap of eight percentage points.

The CDU Rhineland-Palatinate wants to discuss the electoral defeat at a small party congress before Easter and also look to the future.
