Düsseldorf / Mülheim (dpa / lnw) - Six months after the serious truck accident on the A 40 near Mülheim, car and train commuters have to reckon with disabilities again because of the repairs.

From the beginning of April to the beginning of September, two auxiliary bridges for the S-Bahn and freight traffic would be built at the accident site, the railway announced on Wednesday.

This would require several closings of several days on both the motorway and the train route between Essen and Duisburg.

Overall, the railway put the accident damage at a mid-double-digit million amount.

In the accident on September 17, 2020, a tanker truck driver carrying 35,000 liters of fuel went off the lane at a sensitive point on the A 40.

At the scene of the accident, five railway bridges cross the motorway.

The tanker had caught fire below the bridges.

According to experts, the fire, which was around 1000 degrees Celsius, damaged three bridges so badly that they had to be torn down.

In December one of the bridges had already been replaced by a makeshift bridge, for which the motorway had to be temporarily closed.

The current bridge installation is technically particularly demanding, as two 750-tonne crane giants have to work next to each other in a very narrow space, the railway announced.

The simultaneous use is necessary to keep the blocking times as short as possible.

Bahn und Autobahn GmbH would have put the closing times on public holidays (Easter, Whitsun, Ascension Day) and the summer holidays if possible.

According to the plans, the two bridges should go into operation on September 6th.
