The accusations of US intelligence against Russia of interfering in the American elections are unfounded, the Russian embassy in Washington said.

"The document prepared by the US intelligence community is another set of baseless accusations against our country of interfering in American internal political processes," the embassy said on its Facebook page.

Russian diplomats noted that the conclusions of the report on the conduct of "operations of influence in America" by Russia are confirmed solely by the confidence of the intelligence services in their correctness.

As noted in the embassy, the document does not provide facts or specific evidence of such claims.

Such activity, Russian diplomats said, continues the practice of "megaphone diplomacy", the main goal of which is to maintain a negative background around the Russian Federation.

“This attitude of the administration is unlikely to correspond to our proposed equal and mutually respectful expert dialogue to find solutions to the most pressing issues.

Washington's actions do not contribute to the normalization of bilateral relations, ”the embassy concluded.

Earlier, a report by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence was published, which claimed that Russia "carried out operations to interfere" in the US presidential elections in 2020.

“We estimate that Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized, and a number of Russian government organizations carried out influence operations aimed at denigrating the candidacy of Joe Biden and the Democratic Party,” the authors of the report say.

According to the drafters of the document, the alleged operations carried out by Moscow are also aimed at supporting former President Donald Trump, undermining public confidence in the electoral process and exacerbating the socio-political division in the United States.

“Unlike in 2016, we have not seen persistent Russian efforts in cyberspace to gain access to the electoral infrastructure,” reads the text.

Note that immediately after the presidential elections in the United States, the US Department of Homeland Security said that they did not see confirmed data on attempts to influence the procedure from abroad.

The department said that they have no evidence that "any foreign person has succeeded in an effort to compromise the elections themselves or to influence the votes cast in the elections."

Anton Morozov, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, believes that the new statements by the American side indicate Washington's attempts to redirect responsibility for difficulties in domestic politics.

“They have always tried to blame their own failures, including in domestic politics, on 'the intrigues of Russia'.

Even if the experts' report has some facts, then they would have to be presented, "the deputy said in an interview with RT.

First Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Federation Council Vladimir Dzhabarov, commenting on the report of the American side, noted that the US special services "want to keep a good face in a bad game."

“They talked so much about the 'interference' of the Russian Federation in the American elections, but in reality there is nothing.

So they are now hiding behind such ornate phrases, ”RIA Novosti quotes the senator.

Recall that the United States also accused Russia of interfering in the presidential elections in 2016, when Donald Trump became the head of the White House.

The investigation into this matter lasted almost two years, starting in May 2017.

In the final document published following this work, it was said that the investigators did not find any connection between Russia and representatives of the team of the 45th US President.

At the same time, the document said that Moscow allegedly tried to influence the 2016 US presidential elections with the help of cyberattacks and the Internet Research Agency, which “spread disinformation” on social networks in order to disunite Americans and influence the voting results.

Russian officials have repeatedly argued that Moscow had no influence on the political situation in America.

In particular, the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov in 2020 stressed that Russia has never interfered in the electoral processes of other countries.

“Russia has never interfered in electoral processes in any country of the world - neither the United States, nor Great Britain, nor any other country.

We do not do it ourselves and do not tolerate when other countries try to interfere in our political affairs, ”he said.
