Berlin (dpa / bb) - Because they are said to have sold stolen goods commercially, two 74- and 68-year-olds must answer before the Berlin-Tiergarten district court.

They are accused of belonging to a gang that is said to have broken into single-family houses, apartments and villas since June 2017.

The two men were entrusted with the recovery and sale of booty in several cases, according to the indictment read out at the beginning of the trial on Tuesday.

Two 27- and 37-year-olds are also accused.

All four were silent on the allegations.

The charge is stolen goods and, in the case of an act, stolen goods or stolen goods.

In three cases, the 74-year-old bought jewelry and other items that were stolen during break-ins, “knowing the origin of the crime”.

The 68-year-old took over computer technology that was stolen from a house.

The four defendants are each father and son.

The 37-year-old is accused of either having been involved in a break-in in a bicycle shop with loot worth almost 24,000 euros or of having taken over the stolen property together with his 68-year-old father from a previously unknown person.

According to the indictment, police officers had seized loot during a search in the 74-year-old's apartment - including several pearl necklaces, a powder compact and a brooch.
