Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Lower Saxony state parliament has approved a new nationwide uniform gaming treaty that will allow games of chance on the Internet in the future.

While the government factions of the SPD and CDU voted for the contract on Tuesday, the Greens and FDP abstained.

The contract comes into force on July 1, 2021.

With the State Treaty, gambling in Germany is fundamentally re-regulated.

Among other things, online poker and online casinos will be allowed in Germany in the future.

Despite some successes, it has not yet been possible to decisively curb the unmanageable range of games on the Internet, it was said to justify.

This is why online gambling will in future be possible for providers according to strict rules and a licensing procedure.

A new central gaming authority is also planned, which will be based in Saxony-Anhalt.
