Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Around 40 percent of 6,073 controlled companies in North Rhine-Westphalia have violated the Corona occupational health and safety ordinance in the past few months.

This emerges from a report by NRW Labor Minister Karl-Josef Laumann (CDU) to the personnel committee of the Düsseldorf state parliament, which had the topic on its agenda on Tuesday.

According to the balance sheet of the controls carried out from January 27 to March 4, employees often did not wear mouth and nose protection.

Many deficiencies were also noticed in the preventive occupational health care and the risk assessment for in-house infection protection.

The Corona occupational health and safety ordinance has been in effect since January 27th.

Among other things, it obliges employers to offer employees the opportunity to work at home (home office) in the event of office work or comparable activities, if there are no operational reasons against it.

In around 45 percent of the companies checked, however, the type of activity did not allow this, reported Laumann.

In around 53 percent of the companies, however, this option was offered, as required by law.

Only in about one percent of all businesses visited was "home office" not offered or not offered according to the operational possibilities.

Since the Corona Occupational Safety and Health Ordinance does not contain any fines, no fines have been imposed and no proceedings are pending, Laumann replied to corresponding questions from the opposition.

Around 200 supervisory officers are currently deployed in NRW to monitor compliance with the protection ordinance.

For this, other, regular controls have been postponed.
