Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The state of North Rhine-Westphalia is giving independent theaters, private theaters and open-air theaters a financial support for the modernization.

The NRW Ministry of Culture announced on Tuesday that a total of eight million euros would be made available for digitization, energy-saving lighting or investments in accessibility.

By setting up barrier-free websites, an infrastructure for sign language interpreters, additional wheelchair spaces or light control systems, the cultural experience should be accessible to everyone in the future, explained Minister Isabel Pfeiffer-Poensgen (non-party).

NRW theaters in the areas of independent performing arts, private theater, example theater, open-air theaters and amateur theaters with permanent venues can apply for the funding program.

The prerequisite is that the projects are implemented this year.

The deadline for submitting funding applications to the district governments is April 30, 2021.
