Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann (Greens) would, according to his own words, be vaccinated with the Astrazeneca vaccine.

"Of course, I get vaccinated with it, because I believe that if I get Covid, the side effects are far more serious than I can get with the vaccination," said the green head of government in the ZDF program "Markus Lanz", which should air late Tuesday evening.

Astrazeneca vaccinations are currently suspended due to unanswered questions about side effects.

According to the Federal Ministry of Health, a total of eight cases of thrombosis (blood clots) in the cerebral veins in connection with the vaccination were reported in Germany by Tuesday evening.

The number of cases is therefore statistically significantly higher than in the population without vaccination.

Kretschmann said on ZDF that he would like the vaccination campaign, which has now been slowed down again, to be pushed ahead all the faster in the near future.

When there is more vaccine and the questions at Astrazeneca have been answered, one also has to vaccinate in doctor's offices and loosen the vaccination prioritization there.

"We are sticking to certain principles, but we should apply them a little more loosely, more flexibly and more courageously."

But the Germans would find it difficult.

“We Germans are just a people who tend to be a little bit fundamentalist.

That's just the way it is. "

That is the long shadow of Immanuel Kant, the philosopher of the Enlightenment in the 18th century.

"He said: Man is a being who can act according to principles."

The Germans take that very seriously.

On the other hand, the Anglo-Saxons, who, for example, are significantly more advanced than the Germans when it comes to vaccinations, are under the influence of the "utilitarians" who judge the rules according to their usefulness.

“Of course they do it more pragmatically.

They have that in their historical genes, so to speak.

So the nations differ a little.

Both have advantages and disadvantages. "
