Karlsruhe (dpa / lsw) - Karlsruhe, Freiburg, Heidelberg and Konstanz came off top in a study by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) in a comparison of cities of similar size.

While Karlsruhe was in first place among the cities with 200,000 to 500,000 inhabitants and Freiburg in third, Heidelberg achieved third place in the category 100,000 to 200,000 inhabitants and Constance in cities with 50,000 to 100,000 inhabitants each came third.

However, the average grades were all in the three-point range, according to data from the ADFC on Tuesday.

For the nationwide comparison of cities, the bicycle club asked cyclists about 27 aspects - such as acceptance as a road user, public bicycles or the feeling of security.

Karlsruhe, for example, achieved the best partial grade with 1.9 each for accessibility to the city center and one-way streets open in the opposite direction.

On the other hand, there was only a 4.2 for bicycle theft.

But as is so often the case, joy and sorrow are close together: Pforzheim appears among the five worst-rated cities with an average rating of 4.6.

Stuttgart, on the other hand, is the only municipality from Baden-Württemberg in the category of over half a million inhabitants and only comes in 11th with a 4.2, but the importance of the bike has increased, especially in Corona times.
