Mainz (dpa / lrs) - After the SPD and the Greens, the FDP state executive in Rhineland-Palatinate has also spoken out in favor of starting exploratory talks to continue the traffic light coalition.

The state executive gave the order in a digital meeting on Monday evening, said FDP spokesman Stephan Hans on Tuesday in Mainz.

The next step is now that the SPD get in touch with their possible future partners and an appointment will be found.

"Since you know each other, that should go relatively quickly."

The board of the SPD had also decided on Monday evening to invite the Greens and FDP to exploratory talks.

The expanded state board of the Greens had previously spoken out in favor of exploratory talks with the SPD and FDP.

"There was a unanimous decision that we want to start explorations with the SPD and FDP for a new traffic light alliance," said top candidate Anne Spiegel after the committee meeting.

The SPD emerged victorious from the state elections on Sunday with Prime Minister Malu Dreyer.

The traffic light coalition of the Social Democrats with the FDP and the Greens, which has ruled since 2016, could continue.
